Us and Them - a song for Peace

This song grew out of a poem I wrote marking the 2nd anniversary of the Iraq invasion.  Though 4 years has passed since then and Obama is now our President, the words here seem to be just as applicable now as then.

The other day I was walking for peace,

a goal that so many say is out of our reach.

I hope that some day more will realize,

seeing this world with opened eyes.

Not me nor you nor her or him

are divided into us and them.

A man he once said, blessed are the meek,

learn to love your enemies.

Our President seem to be confused,

about the words that their Teacher used.

He's such a mover and a shaker,

sadly not a true Peacemaker.

Not me nor you nor her or him

are divided into us and them.

The American eagle,  our national symbol,

truly does help illustrate why we find ourselves in this current state.

An olive branch cannot seem sincere, when they see us holding arrows near.

The arrows we’ve been throwing from our hands,

one by one have scarred the hearts of man.

Not me nor you nor her or him

are divided into us and them.

When more join in the call for peace,

we’ll find this goal more within our reach.

There was a sign that I say that day,

“There’s no way to peace, peace is the way.”
